Dear Gord,
After close to seven years of being a non-smoker I can now say without a doubt that I will never again pick up a cigarette. I was a smoker for 18 years and I truly enjoyed it. I was by no means a social smoker, I generally smoked a pack a day and on the weekends up to a pack and a half a day. I had tried just about everything to kick the habit including the patch, smoke enders, the gum, smoking on weekends, smoking every other day, and cold turkey, however nothing worked for very long. I was able to stop a couple of times for a week or two and actually stopped once for a year but always returned to the habit.
I then heard about acupuncture. I met with Gord and after discussing it with him, we made a plan and I made the commitment to stop smoking for good. Although I have a definite dislike for needles, I found it rather painless and actually looked forward to the appointments. It turned out to be very relaxing and I did not experience the anxiety and withdrawal that I had previously experienced with trying to quit.
I cannot express how much better my life has become. I look better, feel better, and certainly smell better. I am able to enjoy many things that I did not even realize I missed. I am much more active (because now I can breathe!). I hike, jog, ride my bike and scuba dive (all of these activities were greatly impaired due to the persistent coughing and hacking).
No, I do not miss smoking one bit. I don't miss standing outside in -40, or making a mad dash through an airport to the smoking lounge, washing my windows and seeing the yellow film which mysteriously seemed to form every couple of months.
So once again I thank you for your help, consideration and professionalism.
Yours Truly,
Lisa Scodellaro
